X-Ident has released an evaluation kit with FEIG's 13.56MHz Mid-Range Reader: IQ Explorer.

.: Software and manual on CDThe kit is very easy to use, plug and play style with numerous smart labels to try. These smart labels can be applied to many surfaces such as paper, plastic and cardboard. The smart label in affect is ready to be used just like a sticker.
The obvious benefits of RFID is that no direct line of sight is needed and the tags can be read through many non-metalic materials. Therefore the tag can be disguised or embedded in an object (e.g. the inside of a box) so that it is not noticable, which makes it safe from external damage and provides an additional level of security.
The Mid Range Reader also has an anti-collision capability which means that it has simultaneous muli-tag identification and can read any manufacturer's tag compliant to ISO-15693 or ISO-18000.3-1.
Tags have 2000 bits of user programmable memory, which is made up of 64 pages and each page has 32 bits (8-hexadecimal characters). The tags can also be programmed for universal Wiegand mode from standard 26-bit to 64-bit for security access control.
The main applications that this technology will be beneficial to are libraries, video shops, rental systems and document tracking.
