.:PricewaterhouseCoopers selects AXCESS's RFID solution to protect computer assets and data :.

August 9th, 2006
AXCESS International Inc, a leading provider of Dual-Active Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) solutions and Real Time Location Systems (RTLS), announced today that a top international financial auditor firm has selected the Companies ActiveTag™ RFID physical computer asset protection solution for use in their Mexico City office. This is the second global consulting firm that has implemented the ActiveTag™ asset protection solution. Under the terms of the rollout, PricewaterhouseCoopers in Mexico will utilise AXCESS Dual-Active RFID solution for its custodial asset management capabilities; allowing for real-time detection when a valuable asset such as a laptop is in or out of a secured area. When an item is removed from company premises without authorisation the technology will deliver actionable intelligence through which a reliable security response can be determined and initiated.
Corporations face an uphill battle when it comes to securely and accurately managing their physical assets. In 2005 alone, losses from the theft of proprietary data from corporations and other institutions more than doubled compared to the previous year totaling $356,000 per incident. AXCESS's RFID solutions provide companies with the tools necessary to protect assets and data from theft and help organisations comply with federal and state laws, which necessitate the development of an internal IT best practise for managing computer assets and by preventing computer theft. In addition to preventing monetary loss associated with the theft or loss of IT assets, the company recognised how AXCESS ActiveTag™ solutions could empower them with the ability to better protect their clients data through increased accountability and security.
The AXCESS solution implemented for PricewaterhouseCoopers addresses the problem of preventing theft or loss of assets and data by offering individual asset tracking and protection, dynamic wireless custodian assignments to assets, complete reports and wireless alerting to exception-based security events. One key to the reliability of the solution is axcess's battery powered RFID tags which generate strong signals to enable metal encased computers to be identified even when hidden, which is far superior to passive RFID and bar code systems which require some form of line-of-sight recognition. When AXCESS's Dual-Active RFID asset tags are placed on fixed desktops, servers, and storage devices as well as on mobile assets such as laptops, the tags are activated on demand to transmit their ID at key control points such as doorways. Integral to the systems accuracy is the localised tag activation field which uses the companies new Dual Activator tag to precisely identify assets at specific points in and around the enterprise. The Dual Activator is unique within RFID technology in being able to determine with certainty whether an asset is in or out of a secured area, which delivers actionable intelligence through which a reliable security responce can be determined and initiated.
"Protecting valuable assets and priceless personal data is a global issue and currently we are deploying our AXCESS ActiveTag™ RFID solutions around the world," said Allan Griebenow, president and CEO of AXCESS International. "In case of PricewaterhouseCoopers Mexico the security of corporate assets and data was absolutely essential, requiring a reliable technology be provided as a solution. AXCESS's Dual-Active technology guarentees that assets and personnel are accurately identified and located in real time".
The ActiveTag™ RFID tags transmit a low cost network-based receivers which pass the tag ID's to the AXCESS software and database to record their location, who moved it, and whether their movement is authorised. Individual custodians such as computer administrators and authorised employees can also be tagged to provide an automatic, electronic custodial assignment for accountability and to freely move assets around the facility as needed without triggering an alarm. This process of Functional Linkage™ can be dynamically changed to further facilitate the movement of assets without adversely impacting productivity. Assets can also be reguarly inventoried using beaconing transmissions. Alarms are automatically triggered if an asset leaves a controlled area without authorisation. Doors can then be automatically locked, and typically wireless alerts are sent to security and responders to recover the asset before it leaves the premises.
