Interface to spur growth in enterprise wireless auto ID, locating, sensing and protection applications..
Axcess International Inc, a leading provider of wireless business activity monitoring solutions, today announced the opening of its new Dot™ micro-wireless technology to developers for building applications to enable wireless communications from all things in the enterprise. Dots are ultra small, battery powered wireless computers embedded into or attached to things such as ID cards, assets and vehicles enabling them to be automatically identified, located, counted and sensed. Micro-wireless communications operate over a seperate frequency band so as not to interfere with corporate wireless networks but to interface seamlessly and complement those networks by making it easy to add enterprise applications for enhanced productivity, security and safety. A developer's kit, available royalty to licensed registered developers, is expected to add to the already broad use of Dot technology to tap into new sources of real-time information in the enterprise.

Third party developers have already built numerous interfaces that connect seamlessly into the largest and most critical legacy enterprise systems. These include security access control and fire and burglary systems, enterprise-wide database systems, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), automated Workforce Management systems (WFM), accounting and inventory systems, contractor time and attendance systems, asset management systems and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) systems. The development of an interface to capture data transmitted by the Dot micro-wireless system typically takes just a few days. The kit includes documentation in the form of an Application Program Interface (API) and software to emulate the hardware system. Demonstration kits including the actual Dot hardware are available for a small fee. Certified partners and Strategic Development partners also get hardware system training, sales, marketing support and help in developing advanced uses for the system.

Dot, based on a revolutionary system-on-a-chip (SOC) technology design is the world's smallest, most powerful, lowest cost battery-powered wireless computer. Dot's flexibility allows it to take many forms to suit specific needs. Beyond the wireless corporate ID, Dot technology serves as the heart of many new and innovative products from Axcess such as long range bar code, an electronic property tag, a vehicle identification tag, an electronic cargo container seal, a wireless sensor transmitter and limitless other uses.

Dot technology incorporates a battery powered, software definable wireless transceiver that is compatible with multiple global regulations, including the Electronic Product Code (EPC) Class I and Gen II passive Radio Frequency Identification [RFID]) standard and is expected to also make supply chain tagging more reliable. Dot is one-of-a-kind hybrid, a single wireless source, common to multiple industry standards and supporting virtually all industries including manufacturing, the enterprise, oil and gas, utilities, education, government and the military. Memory and sensor inputs enable the Dot to be tailored to a myriad of specific data capture needs. Dot is not only a better solution for access control badges, but also a better solution for passive RFID product tags, active RFID asset tags, Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) and distributed sensor transmitters. Bringing together the new functions of Dot and building on the current Axcess micro-wireless infrastructure for enterprise management creates an open architecture for multiple sources of data to be acquired to deliver previously inaccessible business intelligence.
The active RFID and RTLS portions of Dot's capabilities are built on and are backwardly compatible with the existing Axcess 433 MHz platform, which automatically activates tags on-demand to transmit micro-wireless messages as needed from 1 to 300 feet to hidden palm-size receivers. The receivers are connected via standard network (either 802.11X wireless or wired) simultaneously to the enterprise system software and the existing security alarm equipment.
