.:Brooks expands its RFID product range :.

August 17th, 2006

New long range reader with 4 antenna connections expands the HF product spectrum.

Brooks Automation, is expanding its HF product line to include an additional reader, which is specifically designed for applications with large reading range. The reader from the HF70 series communicates with standard transponders (e.g. ISO 15693, Tag-it, I-code, Philips EPC) at a frequency of 13.56 MHz. The data forwarding is achieved via the standard Ethernet interface or RS232.

A Multiplexer integrated into the device allows up to 4 antennas to be connected. The various read modes are individually controlled. A simple software parameterisation significantly facilitates the control of the antenna as well as the set-up and service. In addition, the input and output available at every antenna port make it possible to connect further devices, such as feelers, sensors or LEDs. Various Plug & Play antennas round off the RFID system and achieve a reading scope of up to 1.20m.

The reader is constructed of a robust aluminium housing conforming to IP40 protection class and weighs around 1,200g. Upon request, Brooks will supply the unit with an integrated tuning module. This aids the reader to attune itself to the length of the relevant antenna cable in use and thus reduces the likelihood of external disturbances. The reader can be switched to a test mode, which allows the reading scope of the system to be checked.

Thanks to its 4 antenna connections, the reader is particually suited to applications involving many barcodes and therefore helps significantly reduce the cost of an RFID integration. The reader is available right now from Brooks Automation.
